Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa doubled down on his belief that Yermin Mercedes violated baseball's unwritten rules by ignoring a take sign to hit a home run off a 3-0 pitch during Monday's blowout.

"I'm willing to bet there wasn't anyone in that clubhouse that's upset that I mentioned that's not the way we compete," La Russa said Wednesday, according to James Fegan of The Athletic.

White Sox pitcher Lance Lynn had a different take than his 76-year-old skipper regarding Mercedes' round-tripper off Minnesota Twins catcher Willians Astudillo.

"If a position player is on the mound, there are no rules," Lynn said postgame Tuesday, according to Ryan McGuffey of NBC Sports Chicago. "Let's get the damn game over with. And if you have a problem with whatever happened, then put a pitcher out there."

La Russa shrugged off Lynn's comments when the media informed him.

"Lance has a locker, I have an office," La Russa said, according to Jesse Rogers of ESPN.

Lynn isn't the only White Sox player to defend Mercedes.

"The game wasn't over! Keeping doing you, big daddy," teammate Tim Anderson wrote on an NBC Sports Chicago Instagram post.

Meanwhile, the Twins took matters into their own hands Tuesday. Reliever Tyler Duffey was ejected from the game after throwing behind Mercedes in the seventh inning. La Russa acknowledged that he didn't have a problem with how Minnesota responded.
