Report: Rangers agree to minor-league deal with Ian Kennedy
The Texas Rangers agreed to a minor-league deal with veteran right-hander Ian Kennedy, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
Kennedy's deal includes an invite to spring training.
The 36-year-old spent the past two seasons as a reliever with the Kansas City Royals after mostly pitching in a starting role throughout his career.
After saving 30 games in 2019, Kennedy posted a 9.00 ERA and 8.83 FIP with seven home runs allowed in 14 innings last season.
His best year came in 2011 with the Arizona Diamondbacks when he won 21 games and finished fourth in voting for the National League Cy Young.
The native of Huntington Beach, California, will likely compete for a spot in a bullpen expected to include Jose Leclerc and Jonathan Hernandez in the back end.
