The San Diego Padres, New York Mets, and Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to a three-team trade sending right-hander Joe Musgrove to the Padres and left-hander Joey Lucchesi to the Mets, San Diego announced Tuesday.

Prospects Hudson Head, David Bednar, Omar Cruz, and Drake Fellows are going back to Pittsburgh, while the Mets are also sending minor-leaguer Endy Rodriguez to the Pirates.

Musgrove owns a 4.33 ERA over five seasons with the Pirates. The 28-year-old native of California posted a career-high 12.5 K/9 in 2020.

"It's everyone's dream as a kid to play for your hometown team," Musgrove said, according to Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic. "There were thoughts, hopes, and desires of it going into the offseason that this was a place that I might end up."

The Padres have completely reshaped their starting rotation this offseason after also striking deals for Blake Snell and Yu Darvish.

Lucchesi, 27, owns a 4.21 career ERA across 299 1/3 innings (58 starts) with San Diego.

Head is the highest-ranked prospect involved in the trade. The 19-year-old ranked No. 7 in the Padres' minor-league system in 2020, according to MLB Pipeline.
