Voit wants LeMahieu back with Yankees: 'We need him'
New York Yankees slugger Luke Voit wants free-agent infielder DJ LeMahieu back in pinstripes.
"I think he's the best hitter in baseball," Voit said Tuesday, according to Bruce Beck of WNBC-TV. "I'm literally sitting next to a printer right now and it makes me think of DJ because he's a freaking machine. We need him!"
LeMahieu and the Yankees are reportedly at a contract impasse, which has resulted in the two-time batting champion becoming frustrated.
The three-time All-Star is now reportedly re-engaging with other clubs.
"I think DJ deserves a lot and I know he wants to be a Yankee but I'm sure there's four or five other teams that would love to have him too," Voit said. "Hopefully we get him because he wants to play the rest of his career in New York."
LeMahieu secured a pair of Silver Sluggers and back-to-back top-four American League MVP finishes over the last two seasons. The 32-year-old is also a three-time Gold Glove winner.
