Marcus Semien's list of free-agent suitors is growing, but some of the clubs involved in discussions want him to switch positions.

The former Oakland Athletics shortstop is drawing interest from several teams, with a few asking him about his ability to play second or third base, according to Robert Murray of FanSided.

Other teams have mentioned moving their current shortstop to accommodate Semien, Murray adds.

Semien has spent the vast majority of his career at shortstop, with limited experience at the other two positions:

POSITION G GS IP
SS 775 766 6787.1
3B 50 44 401
2B 29 26 236.2

The 30-year-old is one of the top infielders available in free agency, even after a down 2020 season in which he hit .223/.305/.374 with seven home runs and 23 RBIs. He finished third in American League MVP voting in 2019.

Semien's agent said in November his client deserves a $100-million deal despite his subpar campaign, but he could struggle to land such a contract due to next season's potential crop of free-agent shortstops. Francisco Lindor, Trevor Story, Corey Seager, Carlos Correa, and Javier Baez will all be eligible for free agency after the 2021 campaign.
