The Baltimore Orioles have designated first baseman/designated hitter Renato Nunez for assignment to clear room for prospects on the team's 40-man roster, the team announced Friday, according to Joe Trezza of MLB.com.
Nunez led the Orioles in home runs over the last two seasons, hitting a career-high 31 round-trippers with 90 RBIs in 2019. The 26-year-old was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter.
Baltimore also added Rylan Bannon, Mike Baumann, Yusniel Diaz, Zac Lowther, Isaac Mattson, and Alexander Wells. The club made the moves to protect those players from the Rule 5 Draft.
