Price commends Red Sox for rehiring Cora: 'When he spoke we listened'

David Price may not play for the Boston Red Sox anymore, but the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher made sure to applaud his former team for rehiring Alex Cora as manager.

The Red Sox signed Cora to a two-year deal Friday after he managed the team during the 2018 and 2019 campaigns.

"AC was respected by everyone in the clubhouse," Price told Julian McWilliams of the Boston Globe on Friday. "When he spoke we listened. He's genuine, and I appreciated everything he did for me and the team. Guys respond to AC well, and he has a different relationship with everyone on the team."

Price played under Cora for two seasons before the Puerto Rican skipper was suspended by Major League Baseball and subsequently parted ways with the Red Sox due to his involvement in the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal. Price was just one of many players with whom Cora shared a close bond during his first tenure with the Red Sox.

Cora's phone was reportedly "buzzing" after he was rehired, with Price's former teammate Eduardo Rodriguez sharing his feelings about the decision on Twitter.

Cora didn't just leave a lasting impression on players. Ron Roenicke, who acted as Cora's bench coach for two seasons before replacing him as manager in 2020, had nothing but good things to say about Cora, who led Boston to a World Series in his first year.

"I know we won a World Series, but it was how he went about his job," Roenicke, who was let go by the Red Sox in September, told MLB Network Radio. "He's as good as I've ever seen communicating with players.

"He's smart, he's got instincts, and he's got good common sense. First-year guys doing what he did and the qualities he has. That's what impressed me."
