Bauer states Cy Young case: 'I don't know how you could see it any other way'

Trevor Bauer is feeling confident about his NL Cy Young Award push.

After throwing eight dominant innings on short rest to lead the Cincinnati Reds to an important 6-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday, Bauer made it clear that he believes he's the front-runner for the NL's top pitching honor this year.

"I don't know how you could see it any other way," the right-hander told reporters after being asked if he'd done enough to win the Cy Young, according to Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Bauer also took aim at those who have criticized him for his previous work on short rest.

"My track record on four days is pretty bad, huh? How about that?" he quipped, according to Jeremy Rauch of FOX 19.

Finally, Bauer jumped on to Twitter to boast postgame.

Bauer allowed just four hits and one earned run to the Brewers while striking out 12 over eight innings Wednesday. He flexed his muscle on the mound, letting out a scream after striking out Daniel Vogelbach, and strutting to the dugout a la Conor McGregor following his punchout of former MVP Christian Yelich.

The 29-year-old impending free agent's ERA now sits at an NL-low 1.73 following Wednesday's start. He also leads the Senior Circuit in strikeouts (100) and WHIP (0.79).

The Reds' win moved them out of a tie with Milwaukee and into sole possession of the NL's No. 7 seed.
