Padres' Clevinger undergoing MRI after early exit

San Diego Padres right-hander Mike Clevinger left Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Angels after one inning of work with an apparent injury. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Clevinger initially had his start pushed to Wednesday due to biceps tendinitis.

The team suspects the ailment is either a recurrence of tendonitis or a muscle strain, sources told Acee. Clevinger's postseason availability would be in jeopardy in either case.

The 29-year-old was looking sharp on the mound before leaving the contest, striking out a pair in the opening frame. Manager Jayce Tingler said postgame that Clevinger felt tightness near his biceps after finishing his lone inning, according to Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

"We're going to wait for the results and see what the doctors say," Tingler said when asked if Clevinger will be available going forward, according to Heilbrunn. "I don't want to speculate because I honestly don't know."

Left-hander Adrian Morejon replaced Clevinger and allowed three home runs in the second inning.

Clevinger - who the Padres acquired before the trade deadline from the Cleveland Indians - owns a 3.02 ERA with 40 strikeouts over 41 2/3 innings between San Diego and Cleveland.
