The Chicago Cubs are headed back to the playoffs for the fifth time in six seasons.
Chicago officially clinched a postseason berth after the Washington Nationals swept their doubleheader with the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night. Nationals designated hitter Yadiel Hernandez smacked a two-run walk-off homer in the eighth inning to push the Cubs into the playoffs.
Chicago currently owns the NL's No. 2 seed and would face the division rival Cincinnati Reds in a best-of-three series if the postseason started today.
Despite clinching, the Cubs lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday following Jacob Stallings' walk-off home run. Chicago's magic number to clinch the NL Central is now at four.
