The Tampa Bay Rays placed right-hander Nick Anderson on the 10-day injured list Sunday with right forearm inflammation, according to MLB.com's Juan Toribio.

Anderson is the ninth pitcher added to the Rays' injured list, as the team continues to try and hold onto first place in the American League East.

Manager Kevin Cash admitted he was expecting more pitcher injuries this season, but called what is happening to his team "a little head-scratching,'' according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

Anderson was repeating his 2019 success this season. The 30-year-old hadn't allowed a run in 11 appearances while striking out 15 hitters in 9 1/3 innings.

The Rays recalled Edgar Garcia to replace Anderson, according to Topkin.

Garcia was acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies on Aug. 18 for a player to be named later.
