Yankees' Frazier plans to wear mask during season: 'It's the right thing to do'

New York Yankees outfielder Clint Frazier is planning on wearing a mask while batting during the short MLB season amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"There are two people in the box with me, and I think it's an easy thing to do," Frazier said Sunday, according to Lindsey Adler of The Athletic. "I am just overall trying to do the best part I can do (to help everyone stay healthy)."

The 25-year-old acknowledged he has a big platform playing for the Yankees.

"I'm just trying to show that (wearing a mask is) easy to do and it's the right thing to do if it helps a little bit," Frazier said.

The former top prospect isn't the only player to openly talk about the idea of wearing a mask while playing. Oakland Athletics pitcher Sean Manaea is considering donning one while he's on the mound.

The use of masks has been a controversial topic in the U.S. despite many states experiencing surges in coronavirus cases. Tampa Bay Rays catcher Kevan Smith said Saturday he's dealt with residents in Florida who have given him and his teammates a tough time for covering their faces in public spaces.
