Report: Red Sox employees 'livid' about pay cuts

The Boston Red Sox are cutting the pay of its employees by using a tiered system, which has drawn major criticism within the organization, according to The Athletic's Evan Drellich.

"People are livid," one employee told Drellich. Those making $100,000 are reportedly being treated similarly to those who make five times as much.

Here are the tiers of cuts, which were made known to employees on Friday:

• $50K - $99K salary - 20%
• $100K - $499K - 25%
• $500K+ - 30%

While the cuts are substantial, they did come with a promise from the Red Sox that furloughs and layoffs would not occur through September for employees working on the business side of the team and through October for baseball operations employees.

On Friday, Julian McWilliams and Alex Speier of The Boston Globe also reported the Red Sox would pay their minor-league players $400 per week for the duration of what would have been their season.

According to Forbes in April, the Red Sox's $3.3-billion value makes the club the third-most valuable franchise in Major League Baseball.
