Astros, Springer avoid arbitration with 1-year deal reportedly worth $21M

The Houston Astros and three-time All-Star outfielder George Springer avoided arbitration on a one-year deal, the team announced Thursday.

The deal is worth $21 million, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

Springer and the Astros were reportedly separated by $5 million in their pending arbitration case, with the outfielder requesting a $22.5-million salary.

Springer, 30, is in his third and final year of arbitration eligibility and will hit free agency for the first time in his career following the 2020 World Series.

In 2019, the two-time Silver Slugger and former World Series MVP hit .292/.383/.591 with 39 home runs and six stolen bases over 122 games, finishing seventh in AL MVP voting.
