The Chicago Cubs and Kris Bryant settled on a one-year, $18.6-million contract to avoid arbitration, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Bryant is reportedly expected to lose his service-time grievance and will likely be under team control for the 2021 season, too.

The third baseman and his agent, Scott Boras, said the team manipulated Bryant's service time during his 2015 rookie campaign. He would become a free agent following the upcoming season if he wins the grievance.

Bryant, the 2016 National League MVP, has been the subject of trade speculation throughout the offseason as the Cubs look to shed money due to payroll budget issues.

The 28-year-old is a three-time All-Star and owns a career .901 OPS.
