The Toronto Blue Jays are on the hunt for starting pitching this offseason, and that interest could lead them to a pitcher from their past.

Toronto has asked the New York Yankees about trading for left-hander J.A. Happ, according to SNY's Andy Martino, who also mentioned the Milwaukee Brewers as a team to watch on Happ.

Additionally, Martino noted that "plenty" of National League teams would like to add the lefty.

Before he was traded to the Yankees in July 2018, Happ enjoyed a solid three-year stretch with the Blue Jays - his second stint with the team - from 2016-18. During that span, the southpaw won 40 games, was named to an All-Star Game, and finished sixth in 2016 American League Cy Young Award voting.

After he was acquired by the Yankees, Happ went a perfect 7-0 with a 2.69 ERA in 62 2/3 innings down the stretch of 2018, which earned him a two-year, $34-million contract from the team.

In 2019, Happ finished 12-8 with a 4.91 ERA while posting his lowest K/9 rate in three years. His 5.22 FIP was also the second-worst mark among American League pitchers with at least 160 innings logged, according to FanGraphs.

The Blue Jays have already added to their starting rotation this offseason, trading for Chase Anderson in November.
