The Chicago White Sox have placed Gold Glove-winning second baseman Yolmer Sanchez on outright waivers, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Sanchez is now available to be claimed by any team.
The 27-year-old slashed just .252/.318/.321 with two homers and 43 RBIs across 555 plate appearances in 2019 but made up for his weak bat with some stellar defensive play. Sanchez tallied 11 defensive runs saved, tops among American League second basemen, along with a 4.9 ultimate zone rating. He also led his position in putouts (248), assists (416), and double plays turned (108) en route to winning his first Gold Glove award.
Sanchez is projected by MLB Trade Rumors to earn $6.2 million in arbitration this season.
