Report: Marlins give Don Mattingly 2-year contract extension
The Miami Marlins agreed to an extension with manager Don Mattingly on Thursday, reports Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
The extension is for two years plus an option, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
Miami is expected to make an official announcement on Friday at Marlins Park.
Mattingly's contract was set to expire at the end of the 2019 season.
The former New York Yankees first baseman and Los Angeles Dodgers manager has earned praise for the job he's done in Miami during the team's massive rebuild.
"This (team’s rebuild) is going in the right direction," Mattingly recently told The Athletic's Andre Fernandez. "... I think it’s definitely going in the right direction as far as ownership and leadership with Derek (Jeter) and Gary Denbo. It’s going to turn around, and I’ve felt that from the beginning."
The 58-year-old owns a 272-364 record over four seasons with the Marlins.
He's the longest-tenured manager in Marlins history and has earned the franchise's third-most coaching victories.
