Yankees' Betances doesn't need surgery to repair partial Achilles tear
The New York Yankees received some relatively good news on injured reliever Dellin Betances on Thursday.
A second opinion on Betances' partially torn Achilles tendon led doctors to recommend against surgery, manager Aaron Boone said, according to James Wagner of the New York Times.
While he won't need to go under the knife, Betances will be in a walking boot for at least four weeks, meaning his 2019 season is still over. The Yankees placed him on the 60-day injured list Wednesday.
Betances suffered the injury while excitedly hopping off the mound on Sunday in Toronto. It was his first appearance for the Yankees this season after spending the entire year to that point on the IL with a shoulder issue.
The 31-year-old will become a free agent at season's end.
