Devers, Bogaerts are 1st pair of teammates with 30-HR, 50-double seasons

The Red Sox might not be headed for playoff baseball, but Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts have managed to make 2019 a season to remember in Boston.

Devers continued his breakout campaign by launching his 30th homer of the season Wednesday, a solo shot that broke up San Francisco Giants starter Jeff Samardzija's no-hit bid in the sixth inning.

With the blast, Devers joined Bogaerts in the 30-homer, 50-double club this season. They're the first set of teammates to each hit both marks in the same season, according to MLB Stats.

Devers has reached new heights at the plate this season. The 22-year-old third baseman is slashing .311/.363/.558 with 108 RBIs and 119 runs scored. His 84 extra-base hits lead the American League, and he also leads the Junior Circuit in total bases with 334.

His season will also go down as one of the finest offensive campaigns by any player under the age of 23.

Bogaerts, meanwhile, has put together an MVP-caliber season of his own for Boston. He owns a .302/.379/.550 slash line with 31 homers and 106 RBIs, while his 6.2 WAR ranks second on the Red Sox behind only Mookie Betts. All of those numbers represent career highs for the Aruba native.

Devers and Bogaerts came into Wednesday tied for the AL doubles lead with 50 each.
