Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts joined exclusive company Thursday when he hit his 50th double of the year against the Toronto Blue Jays in the third inning.
The 26-year-old became the second shortstop in major-league history with 30 home runs and 50 doubles in a single season, according to MLB Stats.
Alex Rodriguez also accomplished the feat in 1996 as a member of the Seattle Mariners.
While the Red Sox continue to play through a disappointing campaign, Bogaerts has put together the finest year of his career. He entered Thursday hitting .303/.380/.560 with career highs in home runs (31) and RBIs (105).
Boston inked the two-time All-Star to a six-year, $120-million contract extension in April.
