Cubs' Russell exits game after pitch hits him in head vs. Brewers

Chicago Cubs infielder Addison Russell left Sunday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers after a pitch from right-hander Adrian Houser hit him in the head during the top of the third inning.

Russell stayed in the game briefly and ended up scoring from second after stealing the base on the first pitch following the incident. David Bote then replaced the 25-year-old when the inning ended.

After the game, Russell was diagnosed with a nasal bruise and was undergoing further testing to determine whether he sustained a concussion, according to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune.

Losing Russell would be another tough break for the Cubs. Star shortstop Javier Baez was diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his left thumb on Saturday.

Russell, a 2016 All-Star, has recorded nine home runs and a .689 OPS in 75 games for Chicago this season.
