Rendon, Soto become 1st teammates to hit 30th HRs in back-to-back at-bats
Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto are now members of a very exclusive club.
The Washington Nationals' sluggers managed to make history together on Saturday by reaching the 30-homer mark in consecutive at-bats.
Rendon hit his 30th first, hammering a 402-foot shot off Miami Marlins starter Pablo Lopez. Then two pitches later, Soto joined the 30-homer club with a 407-foot blast.

Together, Rendon and Soto became the first teammates to go back-to-back for their 30th home runs of a season, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com.
They're also the third pair of Nationals/Montreal Expos teammates to hit 30-plus homers in the same season, and the first since Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman in 2009, according to Langs.
Soto's homer earned him another distinction in the record books. The 20-year-old is only the seventh player to record a 30-homer season before turning 21, and the first National League hitter to do it since Hall of Famer Frank Robinson in 1956, according to Baseball-Reference.
Player | Year | Team | HRs |
---|---|---|---|
Mel Ott | 1929 | Giants | 42 |
Ted Williams | 1939 | Red Sox | 31 |
Frank Robinson | 1956 | Reds | 38 |
Tony Conigliaro | 1965 | Red Sox | 32 |
Alex Rodriguez | 1996 | Mariners | 36 |
Mike Trout | 2012 | Angels | 30 |
Juan Soto | 2019 | Nationals | 30 |
The 2019 season is also Rendon's first career 30-plus-homer campaign.
