Major League Baseball has upheld Houston Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick's two-game suspension and an undisclosed fine he received for his collision with Los Angeles Angels catcher Jonathan Lucroy, a source told Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle.

Marisnick will begin serving his suspension Tuesday when the Astros visit Cleveland. He'll be eligible to return Thursday. The Astros won't be allowed to replace him on their active roster during his absence.

Marisnick was disciplined by the league several days after injuring Lucroy during a home-plate collision in Houston on July 7. Lucroy was carted off the field and suffered a fractured nose and concussion on the play, and only began a rehab assignment this past weekend.

Marisnick insisted he didn't intend to injure Lucroy. Joe Torre, MLB's chief baseball officer, explained that while he agreed there was no intent to injure, "the contact he initiated in his attempt to score violated Official Baseball Rule 6.01(i)," and thus necessitated the suspension.

The Angels were incensed at Marisnick in the aftermath, with manager Brad Ausmus immediately calling for punishment. When the teams met up again in Anaheim the following week, tempers nearly flared when Marisnick was hit near the head with a pitch by Noe Ramirez; both Ramirez and Ausmus were suspended for that incident.

Marisnick, 28, is hitting .246/.308/.453 with eight homers through 83 games this season.
