The Los Angeles Angels were very alert during the seventh inning on Wednesday night. The New York Yankees, not so much.
The madness at Angel Stadium started when Mike Trout made a no-look, over-the-shoulder, running catch in the deepest part of the park. Trout's jaw-dropping play robbed Brett Gardner of a go-ahead extra-base hit.
But that was only the beginning, as the play turned bizarre once Trout returned the ball to the infield. Both Yankees baserunners appeared to return to their respective bags safely, until Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons managed to slip a tag on Tyler Wade when his foot came off second base for a nano-second.

The result - following a lengthy video review to determine that Wade indeed came off the bag - was perhaps the strangest hidden-ball trick ever recorded. Officially, it went into the books as an 8-4-6 double play.
Baseball. You never know what you're going to see next.
