The Texas Rangers are in agreement with catcher Jeff Mathis on a two-year deal, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

Financials of the agreement have not been released.

Mathis spent the past two seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He's widely regarded as one of the game's best receivers. Mathis is an excellent pitch framer who led all catchers in defensive runs saved (DRS) with 17 this past season.

The 35-year-old appeared in 69 games in 2018, hitting .200/.272/.272 with 20 RBIs.

Over the course of his 14-year career, he's only slashed .198/.258/.306, but is a plus-87 in DRS and owns a 65.7 defensive rating, according to Fangraphs.
