The New York Yankees appear to have taken themselves off the list of potential destinations for free-agent outfielder Bryce Harper.
A report surfaced Monday claiming the Yankees are only "lukewarm" on the idea of pursuing free-agent shortstop Manny Machado, and it is also expected New York will not make a run at Harper, major-league sources told SNY's Andy Martino.
The Yankees apparently determined Harper is not part of their offseason plans because their outfield and designated hitter spots are already occupied, Martino adds.
Harper is expected to garner one of the most lucrative contracts in MLB history this offseason after an impressive seven-year run with the Washington Nationals.
The outfielder appeared in six All-Star games and hit .279/.388/.512 with 184 home runs and 521 RBIs for the Nationals, winning the National League Rookie of the Year in 2012 and capturing MVP honors in 2015.
