Nationals acquire Barraclough from Marlins
The Washington Nationals have acquired right-handed relief pitcher Kyle Barraclough from the Miami Marlins for international bonus pool money, the team announced.
Barraclough began the 2018 season in excellent form, authoring a 1.28 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 44 games before the All-Star break. In the second half, his ERA was a whopping 13.50 in 13 1/3 innings, during which he allowed 20 hits and walked 11 batters.
The 28-year-old spent the past four seasons in Miami, posting a 15-12 record with 11 saves and a 3.21 ERA in 227 games.
He's under team control until the end of 2021 and made $1.1 million for the Marlins in 2018.
Miami will likely use the bonus pool money acquired in the deal to increase its chances of signing highly touted international free agent Victor Victor Mesa, reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
