Report: MLB has additional information about Russell's abuse accusation
Major League Baseball did not only rely on Melisa Reidy's blog post accusing Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell of abuse when placing him on paid administrative leave last week. The league reportedly obtained additional credible information, sources familiar with the investigation tell Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Reidy's blog would not have given the league enough cause to ban Russell under its joint domestic violence policy. MLB has interviewed Reidy and other witnesses and has gathered more information since Russell was placed on leave.
Russell, his agent Scott Boras, and the players' union will reportedly not exercise their right to challenge the league's decision with an emergency hearing if it goes against him, sources told Rosenthal.
The league placed Russell on leave Friday after Reidy accused her ex-husband of physical and mental mistreatment in a blog post two days earlier. The shortstop's leave is set to expire on Thursday.
The 24-year-old has denied the accusations.
MLB's investigation into the assault accusation remains ongoing.
