Age is just a number to Jose Bautista.

The soon-to-be 38-year-old told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports he wants to continue playing next season and would prefer to play for a contender.

Bautista, a six-time All-Star, split the 2018 campaign between three teams in the National League East. He began the year with the Atlanta Braves, moved onto the New York Mets after his release in May, and was eventually traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in August.

While his batting average dipped to .199 this season, Bautista still managed to get on base at a .340 clip while hitting 12 home runs and driving in 47 in 115 games.

Mets manager Mickey Callaway also credited Bautista for his defensive versatility, and the veteran did a great job providing mentorship to Philadelphia's young players, according to Rosenthal.

During 15 seasons in the big leagues, the native of the Dominican Republic owns a .247/.361/.475 slash line. He hit 288 of his 343 career home runs with the Toronto Blue Jays during an impressive 10-year run where he became a household name.
