Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts will be held out of the starting lineup Tuesday for the series opener against the New York Yankees.

The MVP candidate injured his side on Sunday while making a throw and manager Alex Cora is exercising caution with the conditions in New York expected to be rainy, according to ESPN.

Betts was originally in Cora's starting lineup before Tuesday's contest was pushed to a 7:05 p.m. ET start time.

Jackie Bradley Jr., J.D. Martinez, and Brock Holt will play the outfield for the Red Sox, with Ian Kinsler sliding into the lead-off spot.

The 25-year-old Betts leads the American League with a .337 batting average along with 29 home runs, 72 RBIs, 118 runs scored, and a 1.049 OPS.
