Yankees nab glove man Hechavarria from Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria and cash considerations to the New York Yankees for a player to be named later or cash considerations, according to a team announcement.
Hechavarria spent just 15 games with the Pirates after he was dealt to Pittsburgh by the Tampa Bay Rays at the beginning of August.
He should provide the Yankees with depth at shortstop. Didi Gregorius is currently on the disabled list with a heel contusion.
The 29-year-old Hechavarria is gifted defensively (plus-22 in defensive runs saved during his career), but owns an OPS of .636 in seven big-league seasons, and has little-to-no power (26 home runs in 793 games).
In a corresponding move, the Yankees designated left-hander Ryan Bollinger for assignment.
