The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired infielder Adeiny Hechavarria and cash from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for right-hander Matt Seelinger, the team announced Monday.

Hechavarria has struggled at the plate this season, hitting .249/.290/.343 with three home runs and 26 RBIs in 2018, and was DFA'd by the Rays last week. He should, however, be able to bolster Pittsburgh's infield defense.

Seelinger, a 23-year-old reliever, owns a 3.03 ERA in 32.2 innings pitched for West Virginia in the South Atlantic League.

Monday's exchange is the second deal completed between the Rays and Pirates in the last six days. Longtime Tampa Bay starter Chris Archer was shipped to Pittsburgh for Tyler Glasnow and Austin Meadows ahead of the non-waiver trade deadline on July 31.
