Morrison criticizes umpire Eddings after confrontations in Sunday's game
Minnesota Twins first baseman Logan Morrison was left unimpressed by the actions of home plate umpire Doug Eddings during Sunday's contest against the Boston Red Sox.
After the game, Morrison said Eddings was unnecessarily confrontational during a first-inning exchange with Twins starter Jose Berrios.
According to the first baseman, Berrios asked for clarification on the strike zone following four straight balls, and Eddings then took off his mask to yell at the pitcher in an aggressive manner.
"We need to do a better job of keeping our officials in line," Morrison told reporters, including Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press. "A lot of that (junk) can't be tolerated. I'm not going to tolerate it."
Two innings later, Eddings took off his mask once again to bark at Red Sox second baseman Brock Holt, who appeared unhappy following a strikeout. Holt jabbed a finger in Eddings' face, but was saved from an ejection by manager Alex Cora, who raced out to grab his player before things got too intense.
"It’s his prerogative whether to run him or not, but it wouldn’t have come to that if he’d just keep his mask on and not come at somebody like that," Morrison said of Eddings confrontation with Holt. "We’re competing our butts off, and somebody asks you a question and you’re offended by that? Walk away. Just turn your shoulder. Nobody came to see Doug Eddings umpire."
