The Seattle Mariners announced they have signed manager Scott Servais to a multi-year extension Friday. The team did not release any further terms.

Under Servais this season, the Mariners own a 58-39 record and sit in the second American League wild-card spot, three games up on the division rival Oakland Athletics.

"Scott has created a culture here in Seattle that allows players to be successful," vice president and general manager Jerry Dipoto said in a release. "They are encouraged to be themselves, which has resulted in a loose environment, while still maintaining the focus on team above self. His leadership has also been evident through the ongoing growth and impact of one of the best coaching staffs in Major League Baseball."

Dipoto himself agreed to a multi-year extension two weeks ago to remain at the helm of Seattle's front office.

Servais joined the Mariners shortly after Dipoto succeeded Jack Zduriencik as the team's GM near the conclusion of the 2015 season. Servais, 51, previously served under Dipoto as his assistant general manager in the Los Angeles Angels' front office. A few weeks after accepting the Mariners job, Dipoto hired his old colleague - who had never acted as a coach - to act as Seattle's bench boss.
