The first-place Philadelphia Phillies appear ready to make a splash before the expiration of July's trade deadline, and while they've been linked to Manny Machado and Zach Britton, another player from the American League East has caught the attention of their front office.

Philadelphia is showing interest in Toronto Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ, a source told NBC Sports Philly's Jim Salisbury.

Happ isn't the top target on the Phillies' radar, but they are definitely interested in making a push for the 35-year-old, according to the report.

One of Salisbury's sources says the Blue Jays have recently spent a lot of time scouting the Phillies' minor-league farm system.

Happ is one of the bright spots on a struggling Blue Jays squad this season, winning 10 games in the first half en route to his first All-Star appearance.

During 19 starts, Happ has thrown 109 innings, posted a 4.29 ERA, and has struck out 10.0 hitters every nine innings.

The veteran is set to become a free agent at season's end.
