Yan Gomes is headed to Washington.

The Cleveland Indians catcher was named to the American League All-Star team for the first time in his career on Saturday.

He's in as a replacement for Wilson Ramos of the Tampa Bay Rays, who was set to start the game before injuring his hamstring on Saturday. Kansas City Royals backstop Salvador Perez, who was named to the team as a reserve last week, will start for the AL in place of Ramos.

Gomes, a former Silver Slugger winner, is hitting .251/.312/.444 (99 OPS+) with 10 homers, 17 doubles, and 31 RBIs in 67 games this season. He's also thrown out 32 percent of would-be base-stealers.

The 30-year-old becomes the sixth Indians player on the AL roster, joining Jose Ramirez, Francisco Lindor, Michael Brantley, Trevor Bauer, and Corey Kluber. That's the most All-Stars for Cleveland since the 1999 team also sent six representatives, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Gomes - a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil - will become the first Brazilian All-Star in MLB history once he enters the game on Tuesday.
