Gleyber Torres' stellar rookie season has come to a sudden halt, as the New York Yankees placed their star infielder on the 10-day disabled list with a right hip strain following Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Atlanta Braves.

Torres struck out twice Wednesday and then left the game in the fifth inning. An MRI later revealed the hip issue.

While Yankees manager Aaron Boone called the strain "mild," there's no immediate timetable for Torres' return. Boone added he hopes the 21-year-old won't be out for an extended period.

New York has several options to cover second base in Torres' absence, including Brandon Drury, veteran Neil Walker, and Tyler Wade, who's now in Triple-A after starting the season in the big leagues.

A decision on who will be recalled to take Torres' 25-man roster spot has yet to be made.

The first-year standout has exploded onto the scene in the Bronx after being one of the most promising prospects in baseball. In 63 games with the Yankees, he owns a .294/.350/.555 slash line and is leading all AL rookies with 15 home runs.
