Braves' Soroka heads back to DL with shoulder inflammation
Mike Soroka's impressive rookie season was derailed again Friday, as the Atlanta Braves right-hander was placed on the 10-day disabled list for the second time this year - this stint due to shoulder inflammation.
Soroka was promoted from Triple-A Gwinnett on May 1 and landed on the DL with a shoulder strain after making just three starts. He rejoined the Braves last week, tossing 6 1/3 scoreless innings against the New York Mets. In his most recent start, however, the 20-year-old struggled mightily amid a notable dip in velocity, allowing four runs on eight hits and a pair of walks over just 4 2/3 innings Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.
Soroka will be eligible to return June 30 for the Braves' second game in a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
Through his first five starts with Atlanta, Soroka owns a 3.51 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP, notching 21 strikeouts while allowing just one home run across 25 2/3 innings.
In a corresponding move, the Braves called up outfielder Danny Santana from Gwinnett.
