The Seattle Mariners continue to trail the Houston Astros at the top of the American League West, and appear to be seeking an additional arm to aid their chase.

Three days after a report claimed the Mariners were interested in acquiring Toronto Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ, sources say they've got their eye on Detroit Tigers southpaw Matthew Boyd, according to Jon Morosi of MLB.com.

The Mariners apparently tried to acquire Boyd - a Seattle native - from the Tigers two offseasons ago, Morosi added in a separate story.

The 27-year-old Boyd is having a career year, sporting a 3.63 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 14 starts for the surprising Tigers, who continue to remain relevant in the AL Central, sitting five games back of the division-leading Cleveland Indians.

His career numbers aren't as sparkling, however, with a 5.07 ERA, a 4.79 FIP, and a hit-per-nine rate of 9.4.
