Mets place Syndergaard on DL with ligament issue in finger
The New York Mets won't see their superhero on the mound for at least the next week or so.
Noah Syndergaard was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday, retroactive to May 26, with a strained ligament in his right index finger, the team announced Tuesday.
The pitcher was examined at The Hospital for Special Surgery. An MRI and clinical examination revealed the injury.
Manager Mickey Callaway expects Syndergaard will be able to throw a bullpen session this weekend and return within the 10 days, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post.
Before injuring his finger, the 25-year-old was off to a solid start, posting a 4-1 record with a 3.06 ERA over 64 2/3 innings, which included 76 strikeouts and a 1.18 WHIP.
The Mets' DL is starting to overflow, with Syndergaard joining Yoenis Cespedes and Todd Frazier, among others.
