The Oakland Athletics are going to be without their most powerful hitter for the foreseeable future, as the team announced Wednesday it's placed Khris Davis on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right groin, retroactive to May 21.
He hopes to miss the minimum of 10 days, according to MLB.com's Jane Lee.
Davis was hitting .235/.307/.497 with 13 home runs and 38 RBIs in 47 games before hitting the DL.
The 30-year-old suffered the injury on a swing Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays and was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain after an MRI on Tuesday.
Since coming to the Bay Area following a trade with Milwaukee, Davis has been one of the league's top home run hitters, accumulating 98 long balls in 350 games with Oakland.
In corresponding moves, the Athletics recalled right-hander Daniel Gossett and infielder Franklin Barreto from Triple-A Nashville and designated right-hander Wilmer Font for assignment.
