Imagining 6 MLB players as Father's Day gifts

It's the third Sunday of June, which means it's time to celebrate dad.

Whether you're getting pops a new power tool, some sort of trinket to fiddle with, or tickets to the ball game, today is about honoring the extraordinary men who hold a special place in our hearts.

As families flood retail stores looking for that perfect gift, theScore put our own spin on Father's Day by comparing a handful of MLB's best players to some of the most cliche gifts handed out during this annual celebration.

Watch - Ichiro Suzuki

Father Time is ticking for one of baseball's most senior representatives, so what better Father's Day item would represent Ichiro Suzuki than a watch. The 44-year-old hasn't officially retired from the game he loves just yet, moving into a front-office role with the Mariners at the beginning of May, but his career is all but over. He could ride off into the sunset in his homeland next season, however, when Seattle opens their season against Oakland in Japan.

Shaving kit - Eric Thames

When the Milwaukee Brewers activated slugging first baseman Eric Thames from the disabled list earlier this week, he came back with a new look. The face of the normally thick-bearded 31-year-old looked a little bare. For all the dads out there who need to keep their mugs looking as clean as Thames, they should expect to receive the customary shaving kit gift from their fams.

Golf clubs - Yoenis Cespedes

Golf. It's the sport most synonymous with dads. The links bring the guys together, give them time to enjoy the outdoors, hit a few balls, and wrap their lips around a few cold ones. For the fathers out there into spending their days on the green with the sun beating down on their heads, the perfect gift is a new club, and up until this season, there was no player in the league more tied to golf than Yoenis Cespedes. Unfortunately, the injured Mets outfielder isn't golfing like he used to because of some controversial moments, but it will always be a part of who he is.

Fishing gear - Charlie Blackmon & Nolan Arenado

What do two of the most exciting players in the Colorado Rockies organization do when they aren't putting up video game-like numbers? They go fishin'! Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado are reminiscent of the fishing gear families hand out to dads on Father's Day thanks to their love of boats, baits, reels, and rippin' lips as Blackmon put it this past February.

Dog grooming tools - Max Scherzer

Max Scherzer is defining himself as one of the best pitchers to grace the mound in recent memory, but he's also got another passion aside from chucking unhittable stuff at grovelling opponents. Scherzer and his wife, Erica, are dog people. The Scherzers are owners of two adopted pups named Bo and Rafi. Bo, like his owner Max, has one blue eye and one brown eye. So, comparing Scherzer to what dads need to keep their best friends looking their finest, grooming tools, is an all-too-obvious choice.
