Watch: Cain delights Royals fans with homer in KC return

Lorenzo Cain's return to Kansas City couldn't have gone any better.

Donning a new uniform after rejoining the Milwaukee Brewers (where he first played as a rookie in 2010), Cain was greeted with a standing ovation on Tuesday in his first game back at Kauffman Stadium since leaving the Royals in the offseason, and later hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh before capping his night with a single. That helped lead Milwaukee to a 5-2 win, the team's seventh straight victory.

"It makes me feel very special," Cain said after the game. "They were loving on me today. It was unbelievable, definitely enjoyed my day today, you couldn't ask for a better day."

"That's once-in-a-lifetime stuff. I enjoyed it."

Throughout Cain's seven-year tenure in Kansas City, the 32-year-old developed into one of the game's most complete outfielders, hitting a combined .289/.342/.421 with 20.4 WAR and 120 stolen bases. His best season came in 2015, when he finished third in American League MVP voting, while helping guide the Royals to their second World Series title.

Cain signed a five-year, $80-million contract with the Brewers this winter, reuniting with the team that drafted him in 2004.

"You know how many good memories I had in K.C.?" Cain said prior to his return, according to Adam McCalvy and Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com.

"That (World Series) parade," Cain added. "I've never seen so many people in one place in my life. Just blue everywhere. There were a lot of moments, but that parade was unreal."

In 22 games with the Brewers so far this season, Cain is hitting .316/.421/.506 with 156 wRC+, five stolen bases, and .406 wOBA.
