Colon glad to be with Rangers so he doesn't have to 'hit or run'

Everyone loves watching Bartolo Colon, now baseball's lovable elder statesman, continue do his thing on the diamond. Especially when he has to grab a bat.

As it turns out, all Big Sexy really wants to do is stand on the mound and throw.

Much of Colon's recent legend was made during his three-season stint with the National League's New York Mets from 2014-16. But after making his spring debut in a Texas Rangers uniform Thursday, the 44-year-old former Cy Young winner was asked about his choice in leagues and made it clear he's happy to be in Texas - primarily because of the designated hitter.

"No no, the American league is better for me, because I don't have to hit … or run," Colon joked, according to Levi Weaver of The Athletic.

Colon is baseball's active wins leader (assuming he cracks the Rangers' roster) and is just six shy of catching Dennis Martinez's record for Latin-American born pitchers. Yet for so many fans, the indelible images of his career will be with a bat in his hands. He's long been a favorite on the Internet thanks to his skills - or rather, his lack of skills - at the dish.

Still, while he may not want to hit or run anymore, Colon has shown on occasion that he's got some skills in those areas. The man with a career slash line of .085/.093/.108 even made famous baseball history at the plate in May of 2016, when he became the oldest player ever to hit his first career home run.

If there's any justice in this world, the baseball gods will get Colon onto the Rangers' roster in time for some of their interleague road games.
