Francona returns to Indians camp after death of his father

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona rejoined the team at spring training in Arizona Sunday following the recent death of his father, reports The Associated Press.

John "Tito" Francona died unexpectedly on Tuesday. He was 84.

Terry Francona, who was spending time with his family in Pennsylvania, had been away from the Indians since Thursday and mentioned he's received a numbers of supportive messages, which he's tried his best to reply to all of. He also spoke highly of his father, who was a player in MLB for 15 seasons.

"I love the game because of my dad," Terry Francona said, according to Zack Meisel of The Athletic. "He taught me to care about baseball so deeply. I got that right from him. There’s no getting around that."

Terry Francona became manager of the Indians following the 2012 season. He's twice won American League Manager of the Year and also has two World Series titles - both with the Boston Red Sox - on his resume.
