The New York Mets' pool of arbitration eligible players shrunk by one on Monday after the club opted to release outfielder Nori Aoki.
Signed as a free agent in September after he was let go from the Toronto Blue Jays, Aoki hit .284/.371/.372 with seven doubles and five stolen bases in 27 games for the Mets.
Aoki was one of 11 arbitration-eligible players for the Mets, and was projected to earn $6.3 million in 2018, according to MLB Trade Rumors.
With Aoki's departure, the Mets now have four outfielders on the 40-man roster.
