Chapman likes Instagram post claiming Girardi is 'a complete imbecile'

A challenging night for New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi didn't sit well with his closer Aroldis Chapman.

Following the Yankees' 9-8 extra-innings walk-off loss Friday to the Cleveland Indians in Game 2 of the ALDS, Chapman appeared to like a comment on Instagram that claimed Girardi was "a complete imbecile."

Girardi received heavy criticism for the Yankees' loss after not challenging a sixth-inning hit-by-pitch call. Lonnie Chisenhall was awarded first base after it appeared he was hit on the hand, but replay showed the ball was a foul tip that Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez caught. The foul tip would have ended the inning, however, the Indians loaded the bases and Francisco Lindor followed by hitting a grand slam to cut the Yankees' lead to 8-7.

The skipper said after the game that he didn't think he had enough time to challenge the play, and didn't want to throw off his pitcher's rhythm.

"Maybe I'll think different now," Girardi said, according to Andrew Marchand of ESPN.

Girardi is in the 11th season with the Yankees, though his contract expires at the end of this season.

This isn't the first time that Chapman has called out his manager. Following last year's World Series win with the Chicago Cubs, Chapman criticized how Joe Maddon used him in the postseason.

"I think he was wrong in the way he used me," Chapman said. "He (Maddon) abused me a bit on how much he made me pitch, and sometimes he made me pitch when I didn't need to pitch."
