Report: Cora to be named Red Sox manager when Astros' playoff run ends
Despite rumors the Washington Nationals were planning to make a late charge for his services, it appears as though Alex Cora is indeed on his way to Beantown.
Cora, currently working as the Houston Astros bench coach, will reportedly be named manager of the Boston Red Sox once the Astros' postseason run ends, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
On Saturday, Washington - which surprisingly fired Dusty Baker on Friday - was rumored to have asked for permission to talk with Cora after the ALCS.
Cora interviewed for the Red Sox job while the Astros were in New York last week. On Thursday, several reports noted that he was close to taking the position in Boston.
Cora, who spent parts of four seasons in Boston as a player and was a member of the team's 2007 World Series championship squad, has never managed in the major leagues. Despite his inexperience as a skipper, the 42-year-old has been a hot commodity this month; in addition to garnering interest from Boston and Washington, he also reportedly interviewed for managerial openings with the New York Mets and Detroit Tigers.
