D-Back's Martinez lands Player of the Week honor after 4-HR show
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder J.D. Martinez's historic home-run showcase has helped earn him the National League's Player of the Week honor, while Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer has nabbed the award in the American League.
Martinez penciled his name in the record books Monday when he hit four home runs in a single contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He joined 17 other players in history with four homers in one game, including Cincinnati Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett, who did so in June.
In the past seven days, Martinez has slashed .429/.448/1.214 in 28 at-bats, chipping in with a total of seven home runs and helping the Diamondbacks cement a 13-game winning streak that was eventually snapped by the San Diego Padres.
Hosmer, meanwhile, recorded a .538/.586/.885 slash line in 26 at-bats since Sept. 4.
